Spots, Spots, Spots
Original music is a gift, because we can subtly or with a hammer, accentuate an idea, a feeling or let the piece breath before it ascends into the final measure. These 3 videos were done at different times in my career, but I was involved (some of the composers may have felt too involved...) with every detail of the composition. To me music makes a spot...good music give the video a multi-sensory experience...and multi-sensory connection.

EMC: "Escape Velocity"

Producer/Director: Dan Small
Agency: Preston Productions

I produced and directed this, but when I saw the script I knew this was going to work. It is a show opener for a large event. Animations were done by a colleague I still work with, and he still does great work.

Clarke: "Test Drive"
Producer/Director: Dan Small
Agency: The McCoy Group

I've had the pleasure of working with Kelly and Jim McCoy for over 20 years...and sometimes we nail these things! This was one of those instances. The concept came to us like a lighting bolt, the shots were challenging but easy, the music and voice fit perfectly.
The only down side, this spot is so good they have been using it for 3 years and it still works for them... Ahh success.

F.W. Webb: "What is It?"
Producer/Director: Dan Small
Agency: The McCoy Group

This is a spot with no human voice, but the animation and sound are sufficient to connect with viewers. The graphic animations dance to the music, and the music pushes this piece to it's conclusion. I love the drive of this piece, the way the animation plays with, "it", and the way the truck peels out after "home run". This music was not an easy piece to get...it took some angels and magic to make this work - but it works wonderfully.
